  • International business

To expand global transaction banking services to Dutch SMEs, amnis opened an office in Amsterdam in 2022. The team, led by Lars de Zeeuw, Country Manager Benelux, and Annick Melgers, Senior Business Manager, supports both SMEs and larger companies in the Netherlands in enhancing their international business operations. In this interview, Lars de Zeeuw shares insights into the unique characteristics of the Dutch market and highlights how amnis has helped companies achieve greater success in various areas.

The Netherlands is often seen as an attractive location for businesses. In your opinion, what unique factors set Netherlands apart from other European markets?

The people of the Netherlands have always been curious about global developments, which has fostered a strong involvement in trade. Dutch people are active and successful across various markets. Since we don’t rely on any specific industry, we also have to be creative and adaptable. This broad scope and open-mindedness set the Netherlands apart from other European markets.

For entrepreneurs looking to start a business in the Netherlands, what are some key considerations they should keep in mind, particularly regarding legal, cultural or financial aspects?

In the past, many large companies were attracted to the Netherlands due to its favourable tax system. This is slightly changing at the moment, but we remain competitive. Also Schiphol Airport serves as a major gateway to the world, making it a strategic location for business offices.

Culturally, the Netherlands is very open, treating talented people well, and we are world class in high technology. A company like ASML, number one in the chip market, currently employs people from over 80 different countries, highlighting the diversity and innovation here.

Can you share how you ensure your clients receive the guidance and support they need throughout their journey?

In the end, it’s all about transparency and service. We make it a priority to be available for our customers, providing clear and helpful support. Whether it’s assisting with the onboarding process or helping to book deals, we’re there when they need us. We also ensure that we only promise what we can deliver. By maintaining this level of reliability and honesty, we create a consistent, high-quality experience for our customers in transactional banking.

What kind of feedback are you hearing from your customers?

We have received various positive feedback – the fact that many of our new customers come through referrals is a great sign. It is the best kind of advertisement you can get.

With the rapid evolution of fintech technology, how do you ensure that you and your team remain at the forefront of fintech innovation?

We rely on both our colleagues, who work tirelessly to elevate our features, and clients. By incorporating client feedback into our product development, we stay flexible and can respond quickly when needed.

What’s your favorite amnis moment?

There are a few, but one that stands out was helping a company that no longer mitigated its risk at the bank due to the inability to trade forwards. By using amnis, the client was able to reduce risk, worry less about FX exposure and focus more on their core business. It also gave our client peace of mind, helping him and his team sleep easier.
