Most companies now pay for at least one AI tool, and the bill keeps growing. Yet the pricing pages only show part of it: a seat price in US dollars. Dollar billing, FX markups, VAT and seats nobody uses all add to what you really pay. Below we show what ChatGPT Business, Claude Team, Cursor and other AI tools cost a company of your size – and how to cut the extras, including by paying for them on one card that gives something back.
In short: ChatGPT Business and Claude Team both cost $25 per user per month billed monthly, or $20 billed annually – roughly €18 at today’s exchange rate, before VAT. Premium seats for heavy users cost $100 to $125 on both. Cursor’s team seats start at $30 per user per month, with third-party models such as Claude or GPT billed on top. All three bill in US dollars, so a card with an FX markup quietly adds to every renewal.
AI tool costs by team size
What does that mean for your company? Here is what three typical set-ups cost per month and per year, based on example seat mixes at list prices:

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 50 people | 30 ChatGPT Business, 10 Claude Team, 5 Cursor (Standard seats) | $950 | $11,400 | $19 | up to $114 |
| 130 people | 80 ChatGPT Business, 35 Claude Team (5 Premium), 15 Cursor | $3,150 | $37,800 | $24 | up to $378 |
| 500 people | 320 ChatGPT Business (20 Premium), 130 Claude Team (10 Premium), 40 Cursor | $12,600 | $151,200 | $25 | up to $1,512 |

List prices per user per month in US dollars, excluding VAT, as published by OpenAI, Anthropic and Cursor on 26 October 2026. *Converted at the ECB reference rate of 23 October 2026 (1 EUR = 1.1193 USD) for orientation – what you actually pay in euros depends on how your card converts the payment.
How much does ChatGPT Business cost per user?
ChatGPT Business (formerly ChatGPT Team) costs $25 per user per month on monthly billing and $20 per user per month on annual billing. That is about €22 or €18 per user at the current rate. A workspace needs at least two users, according to OpenAI’s business pricing page.
Since August 2026, OpenAI also sells Premium seats in ChatGPT Business: $125 per user per month, or $100 billed annually, for five times the usage of a Standard seat. You can mix both in one workspace – Premium for the few people who live in ChatGPT all day, Standard for everyone else.
Two details matter for finance. Self-serve Business workspaces can only be paid by card: bank transfer, purchase orders and net terms aren’t available. And seats you add are charged straight away on a prorated basis, while seats you remove only drop off at the next billing cycle – so the bill can rise mid-month but never falls mid-month.
Claude Team pricing: Standard and Premium seats
Claude Team pricing mirrors ChatGPT Business: a Standard seat costs $25 per month billed monthly or $20 billed annually, and a Premium seat costs $125 monthly or $100 annually, per Anthropic’s pricing page. The plan is built for teams of 2 to 150 people, and Anthropic notes that its prices exclude applicable tax.
As with ChatGPT, adding members or upgrading a seat is charged immediately and prorated; removing a member doesn’t trigger a refund – the seat simply stays available for someone else until renewal.
Claude Team plans now also include monthly API credits: $20 per Standard seat and $100 per Premium seat, pooled into one balance and capped at $500 a month, according to Anthropic’s help centre. An owner claims them once the plan has been active for seven days. The seat price stays the same – but if your team also uses the Claude API, the credits cover part of that bill.
ChatGPT Business vs Claude Team: which is cheaper?
On list price, neither. Both charge the same per seat, on both billing cycles, for both seat types. For a 50-person company with everyone on annual Standard seats, either plan comes to $1,000 a month, or $12,000 a year before VAT.
The real cost difference comes from three places:
-
- Seat mix: how many people really need a Premium seat. Five Premium seats cost as much as 25 Standard ones.
- Billing cycle: annual billing saves 20% but commits you to the seats for the whole term – including people who stop using the tool.
- Overlap: many teams pay for both. If the same person has a ChatGPT Business and a Claude Team seat, you pay twice for one job.
Cursor pricing for teams
Cursor changed its pricing in October 2026. New team seats now cost $30, $100 or $200 per user per month, each with its own weekly usage pool for Cursor’s in-house models, according to Cursor’s team pricing documentation. Teams created earlier can stay on the previous Standard ($40) and Premium ($120) seats for now.
The bigger change for budgets: third-party models such as Claude or GPT are no longer covered by the seat. They’re billed at API list prices from a prepaid balance shared by the team, plus a small Cursor token fee. For developer teams that rely on those models, the seat price is now the minimum, not the total.
ChatGPT Enterprise and Claude Enterprise pricing
Once you outgrow Claude Team’s 150-seat limit, or need contracts, invoicing and stricter admin controls, both providers move you to Enterprise:
-
- ChatGPT Enterprise: custom pricing via OpenAI’s sales team, with credit-based or token-based options. There is no public list price.
- Claude Enterprise: $20 per seat per month, billed annually, with a 20-seat minimum – plus usage billed separately at API rates, so the total depends on how heavily your team uses Claude.
Enterprise contracts are also the main way to get paid by invoice rather than by card. Below that level, AI tools are a card expense.
Other AI tools your team probably pays for
ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor are rarely the whole bill. Most teams add specialised tools for search, writing, translation, voice, images or automation – and many of them don’t charge per seat at all, but by credits, usage or a flat plan. Here is what the entry business plans of other common AI tools cost:
| Tool | Used for | Entry business plan | Price | How it bills |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Perplexity | AI search and research | Enterprise Pro | $40 per seat per month, or $400 per year | Per seat |
| Mistral (Le Chat) | AI assistant | Team | $24.99 per user per month | Per seat |
| DeepL | Translation | Team | €24.99 per user per month, billed annually | Per seat, from 2 users |
| ElevenLabs | AI voice and audio | Scale | $299 per month, including 3 seats | Flat plan with monthly credits |
| Midjourney | Image generation | Pro (required for companies with more than $1M revenue) | $60 per month, or $48 billed annually | Per subscriber |
| Lovable | AI app building | Pro / Business | From $25 per month (Pro) or $50 per month (Business) | Credits, unlimited members |
| Replit | AI coding | Pro (teams up to 15 builders) | $100 per month, or $90 billed annually | Plan with included credits |
| Make | Workflow automation | Teams | From $29 per month | Credits per organisation |
| Mutiny | AI website personalisation | Business | From $50 per month; Enterprise from $40,000 per year | Credits |
| Lokalise | Localisation | Explorer | $149 per month | Flat plan, seats scale with tier |
| OpenRouter | Access to many AI models via one API | Pay as you go | No subscription; a platform fee applies on credits | Usage |

The costs that don’t show on the pricing page
The seat price is only the starting point. These are the items that make the real bill higher for a European business:
AI tools bill in US dollars
All three providers list their business prices in US dollars. If your company card is in euros, every renewal is converted – and many cards add an FX markup or foreign transaction fee on top of the exchange rate, usually without showing it as a separate line. We explain how these hidden foreign transaction fees add up in a separate guide.
VAT
List prices exclude VAT. In the EU, businesses can usually enter their VAT ID at checkout; the provider then doesn’t charge VAT and the business accounts for it under the reverse-charge mechanism. Check the treatment for your company with your tax adviser.
Unused and duplicate seats
Seats are easy to add and slow to remove – especially on annual plans, where added seats stay committed until the end of the term. Add a few personal subscriptions paid on employee cards and expensed later, and finance often doesn’t know the full AI bill at all.
Usage on top of seats
Claude Enterprise and Cursor’s third-party models charge for usage at API rates. That makes part of the bill variable – useful for flexibility, but harder to forecast.
How much do companies spend on AI per employee?
According to the Ramp AI Index, 55.9% of US businesses on Ramp paid for AI tools in September 2026; 43.8% paid Anthropic and 40.6% paid OpenAI. Per-employee spend varies enormously: the median firm spent around $11–12 per employee per month in mid-2026, while the top 1% of firms spent $9,568 per employee per month in September.
European businesses are catching up fast. AI spend on amnis cards grew 24x in 18 months, and over a third of amnis card customers now pay for at least one AI tool every month (amnis card data, April 2025–September 2026).
How to keep AI tool costs under control
-
- Review seats every quarter: remove inactive users before renewal and downgrade Premium seats that aren’t used heavily.
- Choose the billing cycle deliberately: annual billing saves 20% for stable teams; monthly billing keeps you flexible while usage is still settling.
- Decide on one main assistant per team: paying for ChatGPT and Claude for the same people is the easiest saving to find.
- Put a limit on variable usage: set spend caps for API-billed usage in Cursor or Claude Enterprise.
- Pay all AI tools from one card: one card for the whole category gives finance one place to see every renewal – see our guide on using a virtual card for subscriptions.
- Avoid the FX markup: pay USD invoices from a USD balance, or with a card that adds nothing on top of the exchange rate.
What this means for your AI budget – and how amnis helps
AI tools are now a budget line of their own: easy to start, hard to see in full and billed in a currency most European companies don’t earn in. The amnis Subscription Card is built for exactly this category.
-
- Up to 1% back on qualifying AI spend – ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor all qualify – credited automatically every month (cashback up to €10,000 a year).
- No amnis FX markup on USD payments: pay from the USD balance in your multi-currency account, or in your card currency at the Mastercard rate.
- One card, one limit, one view of every AI renewal across the company.
The amnis Subscription Card is a virtual debit Mastercard for businesses with an amnis account in the European Economic Area. Read how it works in our release article or see all details of the amnis Subscription Card.
The cashback programme is governed by the Benefits Addendum to the card terms; exclusions apply. This card is issued by AMNIS Europe AG pursuant to license by Mastercard International Incorporated.
